Welcome to the Flow Physics Group at IIT.

Overview
Our research focuses on the advancement of theoretical and computational methods to quantify fluid flow. Dynamical systems methods are at the foundation of much of our work. Recent advances in this area are transforming the way we understand fluid transport by revealing fundamental boundaries in the flow that eloquently organize seemingly complex motion. This perspective has provided significant insight into a range of classic and emerging problems, including applications in microfluidics, oceanography, atmospheric science, aerodynamics and biofluids. Much of our current research is geared towards understanding hemodynamic phenomena in the cardiovascular system. This multidisciplinary research combines advances in mathematical modeling, medical imaging and computational mechanics to uncover the delicate interplay between local blood flow conditions and biological response.

IIT CampusProspective graduate students
Our group continually seeks prospective students with strong backgrounds in applied mathematics, computer science or fluid dynamics. If you fit this description and are interested in working with us, please send your CV to shawn.shadden@iit.edu.
